President of Chapman College Democrats Awarded Woman of the Year by California Young Democrats

Julie Meigs is Honored at this year’s California Democratic Party convention for her Leadership with Chapman College Democrats

 
 SANTA ANA, CA – The California Young Democrats have awarded Julie Meigs, the President of the Chapman College Democrats, as California Young Democrats woman of the Year. 

 

Julie Meigs, a senior at Chapman College majoring in Psychology, was awarded at this year’s California Democratic Party Convention which was held March 28 through 30 in San Jose, CA.   

 

Meigs was awarded for her leadership of the Chapman College Democrats over the past year.  Under her leadership the Chapman College Democrats has experienced unprecedented growth in membership, held several teach-ins on campus, hosted a showing of a documentary film on campus, helped organize students to join with the labor leaders in protest of the St. Joseph’s Medical Center poor treatment of health care workers, provided many active volunteers for countless Democratic events,  participated in debates with their republican counterparts on campus, and performed several voter registrations with students on campus. 

 

Meigs has also contributed an article which appeared in “The Margin”, the new publication from the California Young Democrats. 

 

“The strength of the Chapman College Democrats comes as a direct result of Julie’s leadership,” said Jason Bensley, Chair of the Orange County Young Democrats.   “Her obvious talent and commitment make Julie truly deserving of this kind of recognition.”
